Quick Summary / Abstract
Approve the continuation agreement with Barry University (BU) for Montessori training at Beachside Montessori Village and Virginia Shuman Young Elementary. Participating teachers from Beachside Montessori Village and Virginia Shuman Young Elementary will receive rigorous Montessori training to be certified in Montessori education. Training includes Montessori philosophy, materials, and child development theory. The teachers participate in academic instruction and practice laboratories under the supervision of instructors from BU. This agreement has been reviewed and approved as to form and legal content by the Office of the General Counsel. This agreement will be executed after School Board approval. The District will be able to provide participating teachers at the identified schools the opportunity to receive and complete the Montessori Early Childhood and Elementary courses. The source of these funds is from each school?s Magnet budget for 2014-2015 and will not exceed $55,000. There is no additional financial impact to the District.
