Status:
Approve the request to defer the opening of charter schools until the 2015-2016 school year.
On October 1, and November 5, 2013, The School Board of Broward County, Florida, approved charter school applications enabling approved charter applicants to open a charter school for the 2014-2015, school year. Pursuant to School Board Policy 1163, at the written request of the approved applicant and for good cause shown, the school district may allow the approved applicant to defer the opening of its charter school for a period not to exceed the second year following the approval of its charter application. The decision whether to approve the delayed opening of the charter school shall be within the sole discretion of The School Board of Broward County, Florida. An Executive Summary is attached which provides the list of schools requesting to defer the opening of a charter school until the 2015-2016 school year.
